About the university

Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) was founded in Seoul in 1398 and is one of Korea's oldest institutions of higher learning. It was re-established as a modern university in 1946 and today operates with the backing of the Samsung Group.

The university teaches on two campuses — in Seoul and Suwon. Programs such as Economics, Global Business, Advanced Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Nanotechnology, and Biomedical Engineering are taught in English, while some Business Administration and engineering programs are taught in Korean.

SKKU ranks 126th in the QS World University Rankings 2026, making it one of Korea's most highly rated private universities. Admission is open to applicants who graduated high school no more than 3 years ago, and TOPIK level 5 or higher is required to graduate.
